Entry Number 1: "Untitled"Entry number one, ambiguously christened "Untitled," is a brief, moody narrative sketched in stark black and white. It tells the story, from several angles, of a controversial lump-shaped cartoon figure named Fred Robinson driving down an unnamed roadway.Fred Robinson was a minor comic book star in the early 1990's and was noted for recording cover songs of several classic rock favorites on his own record label, "Robinson Records." He disappeared from the comic world under unexplained circumstances involving his reclusive and irritable creator, who was not properly credited for Fred's creation and execution in print. For collectors of early 90's comic memorabilia, Fred's reappearance in this thought-provoking web-based silent film is notable in that it refers to Fred's other brief stint in live-action silent film during his unnamed creator's ersatz film school career. Avid collectors can only hope that Fred's cameo here suggests hope for a comeback. Erma Shumway, Cinema Today Back to the art, baby |
