Makry's

O'Connor: I do not want what I haven't got.
1990
I suppose
I could go on and on about a long list of Replacements records that
held sway over my musical life at one point or another. But, with
them, it was a cumulative thing. A series of brilliant albums, each
building upon the last to form the canon of the greatest rock band
of my generation. However, if there was one record that got to me
in a way that I hadn't been previously "gotten to", it
would have to be this one. This album came out of the blue sometime
around the middle of my dismal sophomore year in college. I remember
seeing the video for Nothing Compares 2 U, and just being blown
away. I'm not sure that I can pinpoint what it was, exactly, about
this record that got me. I had spent the better part of the last
two years waging a letter writing campaign with a girl from high
school that I kinda had a crush on, and I think in some ways this
record was the coda for that infatuation. At any rate, I pretty
much wore the thing out. But, if you have a chance, this is one
great fucking album, and the live show was possibly the best one
I've ever seen.
