Insecurity Moms

Tiny dog really must leave for work immediately and has no time for a rant this morning, but we felt compelled in the face of this temporal restriction to share with you our deep disgust for the latest condescending, reductive garbage-term to spew forth from this toxic presidential campaign: "security moms." A curse on the most idiotic and cynical of media pundits and campaign analysts in the most sad and deluded first world country on earth!

Like those chimerical, now-expired "soccer moms," security moms are yet another mythical permutation of the "stupid white female" voter, who casts a vote based on a vague and deeply ill-informed fear of those very dangers least-likely to affect her undisciplined, overentitled children; in this case, terrorism. If the media is to be believed, these brave "security moms" have parked their mini vans in the cul-de-sac for the 2004 election, and have bravely strapped on their personal firearms and "W is for Women" buttons "for the sake of our children." Yes, I have a barf bag right here in the seat back pocket for you, hang on.

In the hysteria-tinged screed linked to above, deluded "security moms" decry those American "children" lost to the scourge of domestic terrorism (while overlooking those American children, not to mention the far greater number of Iraqi children --who are actual children-- needlessly sacrificed in Iraq for a dubious war not actually pertaining to terrorism, a fact the average "security mom" is too ignorant and fact-phobic to discern). Security moms, put down your Smith and Wesson (now THERE'S a risk to your children) and catch a clue about the real dangers that actually face little Brentwood and Amber in the near future:

  • Unemployment, since your Republican cowboy heroes are busy giving tax incentives to corporations to offshore white collar jobs to Bangalore
  • Inability to enroll in or afford an overly-expensive, poorly-funded university education
  • Lack of health insurance, since Republicans plan no reforms that will remove primary health care responsibility from those very corporate employers who are hiring less and less of your darling children, and scaling back benefits for those already employed

Crap we're out of time-- work calls. But I'll be damned if I stand by and choke down another insult to female voters by Fox News, the bloggorazzi or other screaming right wing mimis without taking a stand. "Security moms," if in fact you do exist, for the love of all that you claim is holy, educate thy deeply deluded selves. Your children's future is at stake. George Bush is counting on your hysteria and ignorance so that you will reelect him and he will continue forth with his pro-corporate agenda that has nothing to do with you and your blasted children, as evidenced by how well off all of us are here today in 2004. Don't live up to his basement level expectations by refusing to think clearly at the polls.
