K-9000

The bedroom was totaled: clothes, shoes, handheld electronic game gadgets, discs mixed up in the cases, stuffed animals on their heads under the desk, posters of stridently posed, fabricated musical groups peeling off the wall, tacks fallen somewhere in the morass below. She kneeled down and began to dig through the shorts and lip-glosses, assembling a cleanliness lecture in her head, but knowing in fact that she was pretty much too tired to deliver it, and usually just let the kids do whatever the hell they wanted, including, most recently, getting the K-9000. She found the guide under a nightstand.

Welcome Your New Best Friend ™, K-9000!

Experience the world’s first fully-articulated sensor-controlled animatronic pet, capable of independent “thought”! K-9000 is capable of responding to over 550 spoken commands, and is able to “learn” more by recording, repeating, and remembering what you teach him! Just like a real pet, K-9000 learns and becomes more responsive the more you train him.

She spun through the table of contents, looking for warnings or troubleshooting advice, or anything about sleep.

Sleep function

K-9000 is much like a real dog in that, when ignored, he will find an area of low foot traffic in the home and fall “asleep.” This action reserves his energy store, but his auditory and motion sensors continue to function, so he can awaken on command, or if he needs to move out of the way.

There was nothing about trouble with sleep.

If it is necessary to force K-9000to sleep for transport or other purpose, the A15 sensor switch, behind the right hind Paw-Z™ (as illustrated in figure F), will activate the sleep cycle. You can then awaken the dog with the spoken command “Wake Up.”
Note: Do not issue this command if K-9000 is crated or in a storage unit with insufficient standing room. When “awakened,” K-9000 will automatically stand.
